James Fuller’s top finish led five Glenwood runners in the top 11 to earn the team crown at the Rams’ home cross country meet on Tuesday.
The meet, delayed from the previous Saturday due to rain, saw the Rams run away from the field led by Fuller’s time of 18:06. Glenwood easily out-paced second place Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson 30 to 56 in the team point standings.
“This was probably one of our best starts from middle school on up to varsity,” said Glenwood coach Todd Peverill. “The varsity guys did exactly what I wanted them to do and that’s sit back, get the feel of it and about the last half, it’s every man for himself. And that’s exactly what they did.”
Glenwood’s Jeff Reeve wasn’t far behind Fuller with a third-place showing time of 18:24. Brady Wheeler (fifth place), Baker Cambridge (10th place) and Cuentin Gray (11th place) rounded out the Rams’ scorers.
Harlan took home the girls’ crown, led by Jessica Feldman and Bailey Kuhl’s first and second place showings, respectively. Feldman’s time of 16:11.77 is a course record.
The Glenwood girls were fourth with 89 team points.
Sarah Homan set a new school record for the Glenwood girls with a time of 17:46.41. Homan placed ninth overall.
Morgan Naughton added a 12th-place finish while Lizzy Young (16th place), Natalie Shearer (23rd place) and Phoenix Capps (29th place) rounded out the Glenwood place winners.
“It wasn’t quite the outcome the team was hoping for, it was a start to the season and the girls will need to improve on their mental preparation,” said Glenwood coach Brad Rasmussen.
