The Glenwood boys tennis team won the No. 2 doubles bracket and placed second in the No. 1 bracket to win the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tennis Tournament last Monday.
The Rams racked up 25 team points to beat runner up Red Oak by three points.
In the No. 2 doubles bracket, Glenwood’s Grant Stivers and Jakob Rhodes had a first round bye before facing Alex Schaben and Keenan Finn of Harlan. Stivers and Rhodes knocked off Schaben and Finn 10-3 before downing Denison’s Ben Claypool and Sam Wolfe 10-6.
In the championship match, Stivers and Rhodes defeated Dixon Nelson and Geoff Sellers of Red Oak.
Garrett Hembry and Joe Gunkelman, the Rams’ top doubles, sailed through their doubles bracket with wins over Jeremiah Haug and Alex Hiatt of Clarinda, T.J. Pauley and Riley Sondag of Denison, Craig White and Jordan Nelson of Atlantic before falling to Colby Taylor and Bryce McIllravy of Creston in the title match.
In the No. 2 singles bracket, Ryan Hansen breezed through his first two matches to the championship match against Council Bluffs Lewis Central’s Weston Morgan. Morgan went on to win the match as Hansen placed second.
In the others single’s bracket, the Rams’ Scott King lost his first round match to Shenandoah’s Jacob Holmes before bouncing back to win two matches in the consolation bracket.
