Fremont-Mills splits pair at Treynor Classic

Clarinda knocked off the Fremont-Mills softball team 10-3 in game one before the Knights bounced back in game two with an 8-3 win over Villisca at the Treynor Softball Classic on Saturday.

In game one, the Knights (11-7 overall, 5-0 in the conference), struggled with their hitting, getting three singles from Chelsea Younts, Hannah Fichter and Morgan Esary in the 10-3 loss. Kendall Fichter, an eighth grader, took the loss in the circle after allowing three earned runs and five hits in the six inning game.

The Knights' hitting rebounded in game two with Lynde Madison belting two home runs and driving in five runs in the 8-3 win. Younts, Hannah Fichter and Esary each added two hits.

Shalori Bond earned the win while allowing one earned run and striking out four.

Mindy Lorimor struck out 15 and Jessica Donahue and Lauren Furnas each drove in two runs for the Fremont-Mills softball team in a 6-1 win over A-H-S-T on Thursday.

Lorimor (9-2) scattered two hits and allowed one earned run in the win. So far this season the sophomore has fanned 144 in 72 innings pitched and is allowing .88 runs per seven innings.

Knights drop

two at Creston

The Fremont-Mills softball team's offense struggled in a pair of losses at the Creston Invitational on June 13.

In game one, Dallas Center-Grimes' Holli Baker struck out 14 and allowed just one hit in a 10-0 victory over the Knights.

The Knights' offense didn't fair much better in game two with two hits in an 11-1 loss to the host Panthers.

Chelsea Younts, Jessica Donahue and Morgan Esary had the Knights' hits.

Shalori Bond took the loss in the circle in game one after allowing four earned runs and six hits. The freshman also struck out six.

In game two Kendall Fichter started and scattered seven hits and four earned runs in the loss.
