Fremont-Mills splits pair at tournament

The Fremont-Mills softball team split a pair of games at the Griswold Softball Tournament on Saturday.

The Knights (14-5) dropped the tournament opener 13-5 to Villisca before bouncing back to win game two 10-5 over Griswold.

Playing without ace pitcher Mindy Lorimor, the Knights turned to sophomore Kendall Fichter in game one. Fichter allowed four hits and three earned runs in the loss.

Against Villisca, the Knights had four hits, led by Madison Powers’ 2-for-4 day.

Sydney Esary, an eighth grader, got the start in game two and earned her first career varsity win after allowing five hits and two runs in the five inning win.

Jessica Meier had three hits and three RBIs in the game-two win. Fichter added two hits and four RBIs.

Fremont-Mills 17,

Villisca 1

The Fremont-Mills softball team pounded 10 hits and pitcher Mindy Lorimor faced two over the minimum in a 17-1, three-inning rout of Villisca on Friday.

The Knights got hits from seven different players, including two each from Lorimor, Madison Powers and Lynde Madison. Lorimor smacked a home run and drove in three runs. Jessica Meier drove in four runs.

Lorimor fanned five of the 11 batters she faced and did not allow an earned run.

Fremont-Mills 6,

A-H-S-T 4

The Knights recorded just two hits but that was all they needed in a 6-4 victory over A-H-S-T on Thursday.

Kendall Fichter and Mindy Lorimor had the Knights’ two hits. Fichter doubled and drove in a run.

Lorimor tossed a complete game, struck out 13 and allowed just four hits.

Fremont-Mills 3,

Underwood 0

Fremont-Mills recorded its sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Underwood last Tuesday.

Pitcher Mindy Lorimor dominated the Eagles, fanning 10 and scattering 10 hits in the complete-game victory.

Lorimor added two hits at the plate. Lynde Madison had two hits and Elizabeth Madison, Kendall Fichter and Jessica Meier each added a hit.

Fremont-Mills 6,

C.B. Thomas Jefferson 0

Fremont-Mills smacked 12 hits in a 6-0 shutout victory over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson last Monday.

Mindy Lorimor and Madison Powers had three hits each. Kendall Fichter and Sydney Esary each knocked in two runs.

Lorimor struck out 10 in a complete-game one-hit win.
