July is just around the corner and Glenwood’s Giving Garden is in full production. Of course that means county fair time is fast approaching too. The Mills County Fair will take place July 20 - 25. If you’re thinking of exhibiting your homegrown vegetables and herbs at this year’s fair, then you won’t want to miss a free program being offered by the organizers of Glenwood’s Giving Garden. This workshop will put you a step ahead of the competition by showing you how to choose, prepare, and present your produce at the fair.
James Paul, open agriculture fair superintendent, will share valuable information and tips Monday, July 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the newly constructed “learning center” at the garden. GGG is located at 24955 Ingrum Ave. in Glenwood, behind McCormick Station gift shop. This hour-long program is geared toward both 4-H and Open Class participants, youth and adults. Pre-registration is not required.
On Friday, July 6 from 6:30 - 8 p.m., bring the whole family down to the Giving Garden for Family Night! We’ll have activities for kids aged 5 - 12 and opportunities for the adults to learn a little about gardening as well as tasty ideas for preparing fresh vegetables. A meal of grilled hot dogs, garden fresh foods, and drinks will be provided. The garden is growing beautifully and we’d love to share that with the community. So come on down.
