Fremont-Mills vs. Coon Rapids-Bayard

The Knights (7-2), making their fourth straight state playoff trip, host Coon Rapids-Bayard (7-3) for the second straight season in the Eight-Man Playoffs opening round at 7 p.m. in Tabor. The Crusaders ended the Knights season a year ago with a 45-34 loss. Fremont-Mills enters with a physical offense that has averaged 387.3 yards and 43.8 points per game. Spearheading that attack is 230-pound RB Spencer Phillips (1,509 yards, 17 TDs) and sophomore QB Jason Rusten (1,072 total yards, 22 TDs). The Crusaders, who opened the season 6-0 before dropping three of their last four games entering the playoffs, racking up 340 yards and 42.4 points per game with QB Brett Carstens (1,611 total yards, 30 TDs) at the helm. RB Zack Evans has added 1,165 yards and 21 TDs rushing.
East Mills vs. Woodward-Granger
Wednesday, 7 p.m. at Malvern
The Wolverines (7-2), in their first trip to the state playoffs in 11-man football, will host Woodward-Granger (6-3) in Malvern at 7 p.m. tonight. East Mills combines a tough defense that shutout three opponents this season with balanced offense that has averaged 338.5 yards and 34.6 points. Spearheading the offense is junior QB Logan Currin (854 yards, 10 TD passes) and senior RB Colby Jennings (1,055 yards, 15 TDs). The Hawks enter averaging nearly 400 yards and 27.7 points per game this season. Senior QB Cole Ashman has thrown for 1,040 yards and eight TDs. Marshall Nieland is the team’s leading rusher after gaining 1,366 yards and scoring 13 TDs.
