Sunday Collision On I-29 Claims Two Lives

Two Mills County men were injured in a fatal crash Sunday morning on Interstate 29 near Crescent.
Richard Miller, 49, of Pacific Junction was driving a 2001 Volkswagon Passat in the right lane of northbound I-29 around 9 a.m. when his vehicle was struck by another northbound vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Joel Garcia-Lucero (age unknown) of Omaha. Garcia-Lucero was attempting to pass Miller when he lost control and crossed into the right lane, striking the Passat, according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.
Both vehicles entered the east ditch and rolled several times. Miller and a passenger, his 25-year-old son, Nicholas Miller of Glenwood, were transported to a Council Bluffs hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life threatening.
Two of four passengers in the Tahoe, Alvaro Rodriguez, 18, of Omaha, and Obed Orozco, 37, of Logan, died after being thrown from the vehicle. They were not wearing seat belts. Garcia-Lucero and two other passengers in the Tahoe, Mario Amaya-Elizalde, 25, of Omaha, and Alejandro Gardea, 27, of Omaha, were injured. They were transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
