Glenwood Superintendent Devin Embray has formally recommended the hiring of Genie Wickham as the new principal at West Elementary School.
If approved at the April 8 Glenwood Community School District Board of Directors’ meeting, Wickham would take over for Kevin Farmer as West’s new principal on July 1. Farmer announced in February he would be retiring at the end of the current school year.
Wickham is currently an assistant principal at Titan Hill Intermediate School in the Lewis Central Community School District, a position she’s held since 2007. She began her career in education in 1991 as a second-grade teacher in the Council Bluffs Public Schools system and later worked as an adjunct professor at Doane College in Crete, Neb., and as a literacy consultant for the Area Education Agency in western Iowa. Wickham earned her bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista University in 1991 and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Doane College in 1999. She resides in Glenwood.
Wickham was interviewed in early March and later took part in two group interviews comprised of teachers, parents and administrators and came out as the best candidate, Embray said.
“She’s a consensus builder. She’s kid centered, high energy, very positive and the perfect fit to take over for Mr. Farmer and continue to grow West Elementary,” Embray said of Wickham.
The April 8 school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Glenwood Community High School media center.
