The Glenwood Area Chamber of Commerce will recognize Bonnie Millsap next week as its 2011 Citizen of the Year.
Millsap will be one of several citizens honored at the chamber's annual community betterment and awards banquet at The Fountains Ballroom Thursday evening, March 10.
Additional honorees include Sandra Sue Morris, Good Neighbor of the Year; Erika Schwanke, Junior Citizen of the Year; Margo Young, Educator of the Year; the Glenwood Public Library, Customer Service of the Year; Katy’s Catering and A & M Greenpower, Brick and Mortar Award; Glenwood Booster Club, Organization of the Year; and J.B. Fitness, Business Improvement Of The Year.
Citizen of the Year
Millsap is being recognized for her years of volunteer service to the Mills County Historical Museum. She's also a volunteer at the Mills County Storehouse and she serves as manager of the Glenwood Senior Center.
Good Neighbor of the Year
Morris has been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and is also recognized for the everyday tasks she performs for her neighbors in need, such as driving them to Omaha for medical appointments or visiting sick and elderly residents in the Glenwood community.
Junior Citizen of the Year
Schwanke is a student at Glenwood Community High School where she's involved in many activities, including SADD, blood drives, FCCLA, athletics, speech and National Honor Society. She attends Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was named the 2010 Mills County Fair Queen. She's been active in 4-H as well.
Educator of the Year
Northeast Elementary School kindergarten teacher Margo Young has taught in the Glenwood Community School District for 34 years.
Young spent seven years as a special education instructor and a dozen years teaching first grade classes. She’s been in the kindergarten classroom for the past 15 years.
Outside the classroom, Young has been active in the Glenwood Education Association, the annual Mills County - American Cancer Society Relay For Life and children’s activities at the Lutheran Church.
Formed in 1984, the Glenwood Booster Club is being recognized for its support of Glenwood Rams athletics.
The Glenwood Public Library Board of Directors and staff will be recognized at the dinner for their customer service.
J.B. Fitness, Katy’s Catering and A&M Greenpower are being honored for their business openings in 2010 and major construction and renovation projects.
