A 19-0 first-half deficit was too much for the Glenwood football team to overcome Friday night as the Rams fell to visiting Carroll, 51-20.

The playoff-bound Tigers displayed a potent passing attack to take early control of the Class 3A, District 1 game, but to Glenwood’s credit, the Rams battled back to get as close as 22-20 in the second quarter. In the end, however, Carroll had too much offensive firepower and eventually pulled away for a comfortable margin of victory.
“If you take half of the game away, or parts of the game, we probably played as good as we have all season against a team that’s in the playoffs,” Glenwood coach Brian Albert said. “Our kids didn’t give up the whole game. I just think it’s one of those deals where they’re a pretty good team.”
Tiger quarterback Taylor Ostrich, who finished the night with 328 yards passing and three touchdown passes, teamed up with Brad Christiansen and Jay Baumann on a pair of scoring strikes to start the game. The Baumann touchdown covered 64 yards.
Carroll added a third touchdown early in the second quarter, and a 6-yard run by Brandon Throckmorton, before Glenwood put together its first of three second-quarter scoring drives. A 32-yard run by Levi Henderson set up the Rams’ first TD, a short plunge by quarterback Grant Stivers.
A Cole Darrow fumble recovery gave Glenwood the ball back at the Carroll 35 yard line, setting up a scoring toss from Stivers to Ian Eflin on the very next play. Then, after Carroll answered with a 43-yard field goal by Throckmorton, Stivers teamed up with Henderson on a 44-yard completion that set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Nathan Knight.
With their lead trimmed to two points, the Tigers put together a touchdown drive on the ensuing possession, culminating with a 4-yard TD pass from Ostrich to Jordan Holdsworth with less than a minute left to play in the half.
Carroll increased its lead to 36-20 midway through the third quarter on an Ostrich bootleg.
The Rams had an opportunity to get back into the game late in the third quarter when Hunter McNeel recovered a Carroll fumble on a punt at the Tigers’ 42 yard. The Rams, however, were unable to cash in on the turnover.
A Taylor Berger TD in the final minute of the third quarter iced the game for Carroll, but the Tigers added another insurance touchdown late in the game on an 11-yard run by Throckmorton.
Albert said the Rams’ inconsistency on offense, a problem that has plagued the Rams all season, proved costly once again.
"Knight gave us a little energy there. We did rush the ball OK, but it’s one of those things where you have to be doing that more consistently to make us a football team down the road," Albert said. "Of course, we’re having trouble protecting people (on the offensive line) so we’re going with a lot of screen passes. We had some success with those."
Stivers, who was sidelined during the game with a hip injury, finished the night completing 10-of-19 passes for 183 yards. His replacement, Jon Williams, completed three passes for 64 yards. Eflin was the Rams’ leading receiver with 105 yards on five receptions. The Rams tallied 123 yards on the ground, with Knight and Henderson both finishing the game with 48 yards.
Defensively, Albert said the Rams were challenged by Carroll’s tall receivers. Holdsworth and Baumann stand 6-foot, 5-inches and 6-foot, 3-inches respectively.
"They have tall receivers," he said. "We have great hitters out there, but we’re not sized up as well."
Eliot Lincoln recorded a team-high 19 tackles for Glenwood, while Henderson tallied 18, Eflin had 11 and Nathan Bledsoe recorded 10.
