Big sixth inning dooms East Mills

Nishnabotna scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away from East Mills 11-6 in Corner Conference baseball on Friday.

The game was knotted at 2-2 when the Blue Devils exploded for their big sixth inning. The Wolverines plated three runs in the bottom half of the frame and another in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t rally.

Michael Story was 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base for the Wolverines.

David Howell, Colden Hillyer and Jacob Schafer each added a hit. Hillyer also drove in two runs and walked twice.

Austin Sommerla took the loss on the mound allowing nine runs but none earned in a 5 1/3 innings. He also struck out six and walked one.

The Wolverines are 2-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference this season.

Stanton 19,
East Mills 16

East Mills scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but it wasn’t quite enough to complete the comeback in a 19-16 loss to Stanton on Thursday.

The Wolverines spotted the Vikings a 11-0 lead before scoring five runs in the second inning.

East Mills had nine hits in the loss, led by Kyle Ryun’s 3-for-6, three RBI day. Jacob Shafer added two hits and two RBIs.

Five different East Mills pitchers saw the mound in the shootout but starter Daniel Smith took the loss tossing 1 2/3 innings and surrendering seven hits and 11 runs (four earned).

Roland-Story shut out East Mills 15-0 in a non-conference game on June 15.

The Wolverines finished with four hits, two coming from Michael Story.
Daniel Smith took the loss allowing six hits and 12 runs (three earned) in 3 1/3 innings.
